We can train your dog to perform multiple exercises without compromising the efficiency of any one exercise if fact each of the skills can compliment the next. This type of training is conducted everyday with working dogs around the world in the form of obedience and patrol work for example. The exercises are different but compliment each other. Some skills should not be taught in the same dog. For example, training one dog to detect explosives and drugs is dangerous. Once the dog indicates it has found one of the odours the question is which odour has it found and what is the correct procedure to follow…….Bomb Squad or Drug Squad?? However you can realistically train a dog to
find different odours within the same tasking for example Quarantine dogs that are trained to find food.
When we train a dog in multiple skills it is normally trained to carry out a skill set that utilise completely different mindsets. For example we train dogs to be proficient in patrol work and detection work. These skills are non conflicting and actually compliment each other.
