Paul…thank you so much for the training you recently did with our HUGE dog Bentley, he was quite a handful!! He was jumping up, chewing everything and a little hard to manage, couldnt even take him to the park at one stage. When Bentley came back from a 10 day training course we couldnt believe it was the same dog
We felt so comfortable with him in your hands. The time you gave Bentley and the attention to detail was second to none. We are now looking forward to training Bentley in our own home and equally looking forward to the K9 Home Smart Programme. Thank you also for your ongoing support and advice. We are truly thankful…AMAZING Paul!!

Naughty BIG Bentley!
Hi Karhl
I just wanted to give you an update on Shelby my chocolate lab. When you first met her she was over excited, unruly and definitely thought she was the leader of the pack. She used to jump and pull on the lead. Taking her for a walk was a nightmare. I could only make it to the top of the street before getting frustrated and taking her home.
Thanks to your calm and patient manner and simple techniques, Shelby today is the total opposite. Calm pressure is a lifesaver and works instantly. I also recommend crate training to anyone with an over excited dog. Thank you for convincing me to try it. Shelby has a safe place to sleep and a place to chill during the day. As a result she is a lot calmer. She no longer jumps and I can take her for a walk without worrying about her lunging at other dogs. I
was even confident enough to take her on a dog-a-thon with a hundred other dogs.
Thanks again Karhl you are not only a dog trainer but a people trainer tooThanks for remaining calm and patient even when I didn’t. I now have a dog that respects me and is a joy to be around. While we still have a ways to go you
have given me the tools I need for a well trained dog. I will not hesitate in recommending you and The K9 Centre to everyone I know.
Thank you!
Ashlea and Shelby.

Thanks for working with our German shepherd puppy Ninja. We took great care to source our puppy for looks, health and temperament. With the same level of care we sourced a trainer. We selected a sample of trainers from across Australia on the internet, checked their qualifications and references and enquired about the methods employed to produce the conditioned responses in the trained doggies. We determined that your methods using “calm pressure” and voice correction were effective and would build a confident response and the outcome would be a puppy that understands the limitations andboundaries and one that responds in a happy motivated way to our voice or hand signal commands.
Now we have Ninja back from her 10 day board and train program we find our 15 week old puppy is even more of a joy as she sits and waits to go through doorways and across roads, automatically sits and walks on a loose lead, comes when called, and drops whatever she has in her mouth at the time at our feet without hesitation or frustration. The real proof is that she does all this with abounding enthusiasm, a waggly tail, a huge smile and a cheeky look in her eye. She has not lost any of her enthusiasm and this new “connection” she has with us is her and our big reward. The result is she “gets it”. We have a better understanding and a fuller relationship. She knows when she has done a great job and she knows when she needs to stop and redirect her energy elsewhere.
We love that you are available for regular maintenance sessions and we look forward to our future occasional update sessions as she matures and learns more complex commands.

Let me paint a picture for you about my loving Labrador Lola… she is nearly 3 and was a dog that loved to escape out the front door when we had visitors, she wouldn’t come back after the escape that I had to get in the car and go collect her from someone’s lawn, walks were a nightmare and I remember one day I got to the end of the street.. turned back and dropped her straight home, she was a bull in a free world and I didn’t have the knowledge to help her or ME. She always refused to go outside if I wasn’t going out too, Lola loved to chase the cat up and down the hallway and I could see in her eyes she was a cheeky puppy wanting to push my boundaries and she was finding every single weakness in me…. UNTIL about 6 weeks ago I called PAUL!
Lola did not know what hit her and I swear, no joke, the first session I saw results!!! I was stunned and I could tell Lola was too. All Paul used was a normal collar, a lead and patience and this was the start to a new puppy. Lola now LOVES to go outside and play (even if I don’t), I can open the front door freely and she doesn’t move until I tell her too (every time!) When we do training out the front together she is happy and loves the challenge and guess what… she’s off the lead sometimes! Yes, she gets over excited still and sometimes won’t listen but I know for a fact that’s ME not her. Consistency is the key and I now love coming home and taking her out for training, I still have a lot of training to do but it will come with time.
I have learnt so much from Paul and I hope you all will go that next step and CALL HIM!

THANKYOU BLAIR!
I rang the K9 Centre in despair, following a serious dog aggressive incident whereby my 2 year old aussie bulldog, Boaz, attacked my 14 year old sharpai, Rosie-Belle. The attack was so severe that I initially thought I could no longer deal with Boaz’ behaviours, and I would have to consider another home for him.
I was so impressed by the service offered by the K9 Centre. I’d contacted the Brisbane centre and the gentleman there directed my enquiry for help to Blair. Blair promptly contacted me and during this initial phone conversation, put my mind at rest as he explained the possible reasons for Boaz’ behaviour and a course of action to remedy this.
Blair’s understanding of canine behavior is unsurpassable and his firm but kind and respectful manner in handling the dogs and educating the owner is brilliant. I undertook the ‘at home’ training sessions, and with each, my confidence as the handler of my dogs grew and the changed behaviours of the dogs and particularly Boaz’ was remarkable. The training sessions taught me how to be, as I need to be, in order to enjoy the relationship with my dogs and in particular, to feel confident with the 25 kilograms of pure exuberant and previously uncontrollable bulldog.
The changes in the dynamics of our canine family are incredible as they all now get along and actually listen to me. With the changes I needed to make in the handling of Boaz and the ‘pack’ in general, I have gone from stressed to blessed! I thought mine was a hopeless situation but thanks to Blair’s guidance, I am now an empowered dog owner. I sincerely recommend anyone with concerns about their dog’s behaviours or to anyone wanting the best interactions with their dogs to contact Blair. Thank you Blair.

Hi Blair
Sorry for the delayed reply. I have only just gotten organised with registering for the online videos today, and will look at them when I have a chance
Rufus is going GREAT! Honestly your program was so worth the money & the effort to get him there. Actually I have given your name & contact details to a client of mine who has two large & out of control dogs the same age as Rufus. I do hope he contacts you. His name is Simon ******* & he is from Kingaroy. As he concedes, he has already spent way more than the cost of having his dogs trained with repairing & replacing all they have destroyed!
Anyway, so far Rufus is a changed dog-that is changed for the better
He is doing everything he should with no problems & only occasionally needs to be reminded when he is being a little TOO affectionate. An unexpected bonus is that instead of slinking off at every chance to sleep on his couch, he will come outside with me & stay there without any direction from me, watching what I am doing or just keeping me company. It is really nice & he is a
pleasure to have around.
He even stands back & waits until I put his food down & tell him he can have it. I have to admit I have not yet taken him for an on lead ‘walk’ intotown, but have checked that he can & will still walk on the lead for when I do want to do that. No problem at all with that. I did clip one of his nails & he was OKish with it but it is probably a two person job. I will make sure I work on that so he doesn’t slip backwards.
He has also stopped most of his unprovoked barking! He had gotten to the stage that he was barking at shadows before you took him on & it was getting quite annoying. He did go beserk & rightly so when a koala tried to break into the house last week. Seriously! It was surreal, jumping up onto the glass door trying to get in. Even then Toby could calm him down & remove him from the excitement quite easily.
I can not speak of the training program highly enough, and your obvious expertise also. I would not hesitate to recommend the training to anyone who has a dog. In fact I wish it was mandatory for dog ownership. The world would be a much better place with happy, contented & obedient dogs!!
I am watching Rufus’ weight & changed to a (almost) raw diet. I won’t be buying any more dog biscuits when this packet is finished. I tried to source the meat you use but it is a bit difficult out here, so as a temporary measure
I mixed up a heap of meat, offal, eggs, vegetables & marine oil & froze them into patties the size you said he should be eating & he eats it just fine. It is also very convenient for me to just thaw out one at a time & it is so easy to feed him now. I haven’t weighed him yet to see how he is going.
Anyway I hope all is going well with you & I’ll keep in touch & let you know if I have any problems.
Kind regards
Wendy
Alan came to a household that was unbalanced and in need of help. We were desperate to create a positive and healthy environment for our 5 year old Bull Terrier (Bella) and 2 year old American Staffy (Harlem). With Bella having free run throughout puppyhood (opening cupboards and stealing potatoes, sleeping on our bed/couch, terrorising the neighbourhood with her morning wake up bark and constantly ripping up shoes/plants not to mention 2x MP3 players) unbeknown to us we had created a Monster! When Harlem came along we experienced severe dominance issues between the two dogs whilst they argued for the top of the ladder.

From the council whipper snipping over the other side of our fence. Which was sending them crazy. Or even just during daily walks. We had taken on a load of stress trying to control and train them both to be calm and submissive. After a failed attempt with our first “text-book” dog trainer who focused on avoiding the issues rather than correction, and seemed to use general training techniques not tailored to our situation.
Four months went past as we implemented the trainers suggestions with little to no result. As the issues were still present and reoccurring on a daily basis we knew as responsible dog owners we had to nip-it-in-the-bud and take
control of the situation we had created.
From the first phone call with Alan at the K9 centre, we automatically felt hope, and that there was light at the end of the tunnel. Alan listened to all of our concerns and was soon on our door step with his friendly smile and cool-as-a-cucumber-attitude. Within the first hour we had accomplished more with Alan than we had the past 4 months, with weekly visits from Alan and new training techniques in place the dogs respect for us grew as we became pack leaders. We are completely amazed with the change in our household; the dogs now greet us calm and submissive instead of fighting each other for our attention. Alan not only changed our dogs’ behaviour but also our lives, our expectations were exceeded as we were given the understanding and knowledge in order to create and maintain a stable and balanced lifestyle, with the members of our pack. After experiencing the “Alan Effect” we would highly recommend him to anyone and everyone.
Alan, you have made a tremendous impact on our lives and have gained our endless trust and respect. Thank you for giving us your gift!

My husband and I had been talking about getting some dog training for quite some time. We wanted one-on-one training rather than group training but really didn’t know where to start looking. Then we heard about K9 Centre on Nova. I called them up and within a couple of hours had a return call from Paul who clearly explained to me they way that the K9 Centre carried out there training. We were particularly ‘sold’ on the “guaranteed results” after the first session. We booked our dogs in and started our training within a couple of weeks. Low and behold, K9 Centre held up their end of the bargain!! We had results after just one hour. We were amazed. Overall, our dogs are calmer and we have a lot more control over them. We used to come back from a walk frustrated but now it is a pleasure and much more relaxing for all four of us. Our trainer, Paul, was not only professional but also very knowledgeable and friendly. We found the whole experience with Paul and The K9 Centre fun, rewarding and enjoyable. We would (and have) recommend the K9 Centre to anyone looking for professional and effective dog training.

I would just like to say thank you from myself and my family on the wonderful work that you have done with Nani over the past couple of months. From an anxious and at times aggressive dog to the relaxed dog that I see today is something that I never thought I would see. I would also like to thank you for the knowledge and the time that you spent with us as dog owner’s teaching us our true responsibilities which has contributed no-end to the improvement in Nani’s behaviour.
Finally, it isn’t often that you engage with a service provider who calls you “the client” after the job on multiple occassions, or who makes himself or herself available after the fact for any questions that may still be out there. Your service is different and I can’t thank you enough for everything.

Dear Karhl
Having owned dogs all our lives we found ourselves a little overwhelmed by our latest addition to the family, a very excitable Doberman who was not very responsive to training. We decided to book both our Doberman and our Beagle into K9.
After our dogs completed the 10 day Board Smart program it was incredible to see the results of your training and the difference in the dog’s behaviour. They returned home calm, controlled and responsive to the commands they were given. Upon handover Karhl spent two hours with us carefully showing us what he had taught the dogs and teaching us how to keep the training ongoing.
Over the next couple of months we met with Karhl once a fortnight for an hour to continue the training. We soon learnt that training dogs was also about training us. Karhl helped to teach us at the same time as training the dogs. Karhl was able to explain the training techniques in a way that made it a pleasure to spend time training our dogs. Kahrls commitment to the dogs and us was nothing short of amazing, he has taught us how to continue the great training that he completed whist the dogs were in his care. We are now able to enjoy time with our dogs without the continual battle to calm them down and follow commands, walking the dogs is now a pleasure not a chore. We can not thank K9 and in particular Karhl enough for what they have achieved for us. I would have no hesitation in recommending K9 to anyone who needs quality training.
Many thanks K9.

We have a 10 month old Rottweiler named Ricco, who was starting to think he was the boss of the house. He would not to one thing that I told him to do and was very difficult to control. He would listen to my husband, Peter but this was not good as Peter works away alot.It was a starting to be a bit of a nightmare for me and my 2 daughters who are 10 & 11yrs old. We also have a 2 1/2 yr old Staffy (Our princess). They get on really well
We rang K9 and within only a couple of hours Karhl had rung us back and organized a time convenient to our busy lives to come and help us…. Karhl has definitely been wonderful to say the least.
He has trained us and Ricco has followed.
Karhl has shown us how to be calm, assertive and in control of Ricco, He has tought us to patient with him, after all he is still a pup learning, which is quite hard to remember when you have this huge dog that is already nearly 50kg and looks like an older dog. Ricco is coming along really well, we have noticed a huge difference in his behavior since Karhl has been seeing us.With more practice and continued sessions with Ricco he has become easier to handle and is starting to listen to commands. Our girls and myself have much more control. ( We just wont go up the lane way with him. LOL Karhl has been a savior to us as we had no control of this huge boy.
It has been worth every cent. Karhl has always been available to speak to at anytime. The online videos have also been helpful. The crate has worked a treat. He goes into it to have quite time and is always so relaxed when he is in it. I was always under the impression that dogs were always trained with treats. K9 trains without any treats which I think is great. We were definitely the ones that needed the training.
Thank you Karhl for your time patients and sharing your expertise with us.
I would recommend you and have so already without hesitation.

My Partner and I called The K9 Centre because we have 2 & 3yr old hyperactive staffies and were getting frustrated with some of the more robust behaviours, such as jumping on guests and pulling on the lead while walking. The contact process was fast and efficient and we had an appointment lined up within half an hour of the call to the centre.
What a difference working with Karhl has made for both our dogs and us! I’m a teacher myself and I have learned a lot about my own behaviour. The immediate results regarding some of the behaviours were amazing. Even though some behaviours (both human and dog) will take some time to improve knowing what to do to get the desired result and seeing the improvement in our dogs’ behaviour has made our lives much better.
Working from home has made the process so much easier and Karhl was very supportive. He was always available to answer any questions outside of the appointment times and was never in a rush to end the sessions. He dealt with our (human) behaviours patiently and effectively and was able to clearly demonstrate to us what we can do to achieve the desired result in our dogs’ behaviour.
I fully recommend Karhl and am very happy we made the choice to contact the K9 centre. If we consider further (advanced) training I will definitely be calling Karhl.
My partner and I had been having issues with our two foxy crosses for a number of years. After being very dilligent in the early stages of our older dogs life with behaviour and consistency, things had slipped considerably and both (the eldest in particular) had settled into some learned behaviour that was rooted in fear aggression. Though they were both vested with a natural exuberance and nervous energy common to foxies, their behaviour had become enough to influence OUR behaviour and choices, who we could be around, where we took them in public. We always had an eye on them when our friends came over, never trusted (the eldest) around children or strangers, and more often than not we’d end up locking her away when people came to our house. We knew we had to do something but after trying many different approaches over the years had become frustrated, and in turn became lax and inconsistent with our training.
We found Paul while looking for a boarder for the dogs (we hadn’t been on holiday for 3 years because we couldn’t trust them with anyone!) He introduced us to the techniques that we still employ regularly now, in a gradual and straightforward way, that was as much about training us as it was the dogs. We noticed an improvement after the first session and then went on to build on the fundamental principle in the following weeks. Our eldest dog responded so quickly we were astounded (she’s 11!) – she went from trying to eat Pauls boot to wagging her tail and walking beside him in the space of about 4 sessions. It didn’t hurt that Paul himself is an amiable, easy going guy who
knows his training and knows how to communicate it (no dog whispering or puppy xanax here!). He had a genuine affection for our dogs and they for him. We enjoyed our time training with Paul too and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone for any dog behaviour issue – the results speak for themselves.
Hi Karhl
Sam, Dom & I would like to sincerely thank you for all your help with Harry – he has come ahead in leaps and bounds. Please find below a testimonial for your business. Karhl Pickering, the dog trainer from K9 Centre Dog Training has been coming to our home once a week for the past 4 weeks to provide training/rehabilitation for our border collie. His dedication, patience and expertise has turned our once disobedient, hard to manage, over-exuberant dog into a well-behaved calm dog who is now a pleasure to take for a walk and easily controlled.
Karhl charges one initial payment and his philosophy is that he will keep coming as long as it takes to rehabilitate/train the dog and he has certainly lived up to that for us – he is coming again on the weekend just to go back over all the basics with us and our dog. He has provided myself and my two sons with the help we all needed in order for us to become the ‘pack leader’ to our dog. We now have the confidence to take our dog anywhere knowing we have the skills to control him easily.
Karhl understands dogs so well and is brilliant at what he does so I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone that needs help with their dog – yoú will be very happy with the results.
Thankyou Marieanne Deutscher
We recently moved from a property that had 1 quiet dog as a neighbour, to 4 small persistent barking dogs as neighbours. Unfortunately this new environment did not go down well with our 2yr 69kg Bullmastiff – Boss!
The Fence
The effect on Boss was instant! The aggression he displayed when these dogs were barking on our fence line, was something we had never witnessed, it was upsetting and scary, for me and the children. My main concern was, this could ignite at any time and I had absolutely no control.
The Walk
My husband works away 5wks and only home 7 days plus we recently moved from NZ, so I had no family or friends to watch the children, 2yr, 4yr, 6yr, 9yr. To say walking Boss with a Pram & 4 Kids was a “Mission”, is an understatement! I must say, being 5 foot nothing and choosing a breed of dog that weighs 10kg more then me, certainly wasn’t one of my wisest choices and Lord help us, if we were ever “unlucky” enough to encounter another dog, all hell would break loose. Even a shot of Vodka couldn’t ease the mental or physical strain, some days I didn’t know if I was “God” for getting through these walks or just plain, “Stupid”!
The Play
Boss’s idea of play was to run around like crazy, full throttle! The problem was that on the “home straight”, it was always a game of “cat & mouse”, you could never tell if he was going to STOP and most times….he didn’t!
The Meeting
Even before confirming an appointment, Al would phone to check how I was coping. On meeting Al, my husband and I were so impressed with the Knowledge, Techniques, Advice and ongoing support. It was such a relief to finally have answers and the tools to work with and understand Boss.
On following Al’s advice, Boss is now rarely agitated at the neighbours dogs and he will come away from the fence on my command. My knee’s no longer knock when Boss decides to run towards me, he now stops on my command, truly a miracle! And I am Proud to say that I now HAVE and CAN control my very large & heavy dog, when out in Public.
Al-the Trainer
Al is more then a Dog Trainer, he is unique!
Al took the time to listen and understand the dynamics of our family, he made learning easy and solutions workable, he either worked around the children or he included them. His Guidance, Support and Especially his Patients, has truly been a life saver. Due to suffering from depression, each day has it’s challenges but after experiencing a dog bite, my confidence went into a downward spiral. Unbeknown to Al, he has not only helped me regain my confidence as a Dog Owner, but as an individual and as a parent. Al has played a major role in keeping our family unit together and for that, we are all very grateful…..thank-you Al…..
